Department of Theoretical Ecology

Postgraduate course in Tropical Ecology

In March 2004 a group of graduate students at the department of Theoretical Ecology left Lund for Costa Rica. Our objective was to learn more about tropical ecology, abundant in Costa Rica and absent in Lund. We took part in a field course visiting Palo Verde National Park, a tropical dry forest, and La Selva biological research station, a lowland tropical rainforest. On these localities we were guided through the fascinating diversity of the tropics and also did small projects. In addition to this we carried out two larger projects; one modelling ecotourism and tourism dynamics and one investigating the presence of tardigrades (Phylum Tardigrada) in a Costa Rican wetland. Have a look at the reports and picture gallery from our trip.

Reports
As part of our preparation for the trip we created some documents regarding different facts about Costa Rica (in Swedish).

Tropical biology (pdf)
Climate, geography etc. (pdf)
Vertebrates (pdf)
Evertebrates (pdf)
Danger (Powerpoint)
Culture, history etc. (pdf)
Plants (pdf)

Below is the outcome from two different projects that we carried out in Costa Rica (in English) and a trip report (in Swedish).
